You’ve Had Your First Adjustment

As you experience the first chiropractic adjustment of spinal subluxations, your nerve system starts a journey of enriching your life.

Your subluxations have most likely been present for some period of time before today’s adjustment. As a result, your body and mind may have become accustomed to behavior patterns produced by a nervous system which was not working at its best.

That has already begun to change with today’s adjustment!

You may notice that your breath has deepened, or a change in the position of
your neck or head, or increased ease within your being. Perhaps you are not quite sure what you feel. Most people within the first five or six adjustments know that something very exciting, powerful and creative has been released within them through the chiropractic adjustment.

Perhaps you had an ailment, pain, or symptom you were hoping would resolve when you consulted me. You may be wondering how the adjustment is affecting that particular region of your body that concerns you.

The adjustment allows you to begin recovery from patterns of behavior your muscles, heart, lungs, blood vessels, glands, digestive organs and all other body parts have learned over the years.

The adjustment helps you recover from past stressful experiences, such as physical trauma, accidents, emotional crises, mental pressures and chemical stresses in food, air, smoke or drugs. It is achieved each visit as a result of your body beginning its re-education process. Your body is learning what normal really is.

What happens next?

The next step, healing, has already begun. Consistent adjustments over time help the process continue.

The correct frequency of visits is different for each person. In the beginning of care, we consider your daily life challenges and aim to have a frequency that allows you to have fewer reinforced subluxation patterns. Eventually you may have a more flexible nervous system that recovers and learns from the past and adapts (deals with) the present more effectively and constructively. You may begin to perceive your world in a more exciting and loving fashion.

Right now you are changing, growing, and developing. Every second, old cells are being replaced by new cells. Chiropractic adjustments give you the opportunity to have these new cells begin with a “clean slate” so that they can serve you in the most vibrant, healthiest fashion possible throughout your lifetime.

Chiropractic, as I practice it, offers you and your family the opportunity to engage in optimum life, not just tolerance of life.

It takes from three to six months for most people to get tuned in to their inner self well enough to know when they are subluxated and when they are clear. During this initial phase of care, consistency of visits is essential. The more significant the change initialized in your nerve system, the more graceful your future growth and development can be.

Together we create a program of care consistent with your ability to perceive, adapt to, and recover from challenges (physical, emotional, mental, and chemical) in your life.

As you recover, your body will retrace many memory patterns of what you’ve experienced in your life. This means that your physical body may “dream” of old injuries or symptoms as it unlearns old, nonconstructive subluxation patterns. You may experience symptoms that have gone away a long time ago, although this will be only as long as your body needs to “hold you there” while it grows past the old pattern.

Common recovery signs include change in breathing patterns, elimination, digestion, or sensory perceptions such as tingling, warmth, and itchiness. You may also notice blood pressure and hormonal changes, or symptoms such as fever associated with your body “cleaning house.” The presence or severity of these symptoms, or any other symptom in and of itself does not necessarily mean that you are better. Symptoms can have many meanings. The clearing out of subluxation patterns, and the accompanying increased ease is an indication of the positive changes you are making in your well-being.

When a subluxation produced by lack of recovery from emotional stress releases, it is common to have an emotional burp. Emotions now released may uncontrollably gush forth, freeing you from their weight and control. Laughter or tears are not uncommon in people of all ages. These responses occur as the old subluxation patterns clear out and you begin your journey to health – the health that is inside you waiting for the adjustment to set it free.

I am looking forward to assisting you in your decision to reclaim your health through chiropractic!
